Harbor Fog & Light Blades (2008)
Location: Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, Downtown

After an exhausting day of visiting various art sites in a number of different Boston neighborhoods, I found myself Downtown, walking towards the Greenway. It was well into the evening -- the perfect moment to visit the Harbor Fog and Light Blades!

Of all the sites I visited that weekend, the Harbor Fog and Light Blades were definitely my favorites. Unlike the abundance of statues and sculptures I had seen earlier that day, these two pieces are dynamic. The Harbor Fog is interactive: the LED lights change colors every couple of minutes, the light intensity increases as you move closer, and “fog” is released from the bottom of the sculpture (but only during the daytime in the warmer months). Across the street, the Light Blades shine tall and bright, illuminating the area with gorgeous hues of purples, pinks, reds, greens, and blues.

I enjoy both the Harbor Fog and the Light Blades because I think they are pieces of art that people of all ages will appreciate. The colors of the lights in these two sculptures are also bright and eye-catching -- a feature that most of the other pieces I visited were lacking in. They are undeniably unique, and I hope that I will be able to continue finding more art similar to this throughout the semester!
